Soybean Cyst Nematode

Midwest Independent Soil Samplers (MISS) offers an array of soybean cyst nematode (SCN) options allowing you to create a program that best fits the needs of your client. SCN sample sizes include 4.4-acre grid, 10-acre grid, 20-acre grid, composite and hot spot checks.

Most growers assume using SCN resistant seed will eliminate the pest’s influence on yield.  There are, however, several races of SCN and seed resistance may not cover all.  Further, if SCN infestation is severe, it will overpower even the resistant seed.  Testing for SCN costs about one-half bushel of soybeans per acre when done in 10 acre grids.

MISS most highly recommends grids rather than zones as we have found SCN is as variable as other nutrient or soil conditions.
