About Us
We believe that if you plan for a good year, chances are
that you will have one. MISS has based its business on the premise
that you are able to manage what you can measure. Our services reflect
this premise; let us measure the items that you need to help your ag
production, so you will increase your chances of having a good year.
MISS originated in South Central
Minnesota in 1981 as a crop scouting business known as Tri-County Crop Survey. Tom McGraw began and operated the
business while he continued farming. As he harvested his own crops, Tom realized yield
variations across the field and became curious. Soon after, he added grid
soil sampling services to his scouting business. The business grew and
expanded beyond the three county area and the company name was changed to
Minnesota Crop Monitors. Before GPS systems, GIS software and field
computers, Tom walked the fields collecting soil samples using a measuring
wheel, a backpack and the ever-constant hand probe. The original "stop
light" color system and other soil sampling innovations developed in the
"early days" are still in use.
As technology
developed and business increased, MISS moved across Minnesota's borders.
In 1995 the company discontinued crop scouting services and became known
as Midwest Independent Soil Samplers working exclusively in the area of soil
collection, information and mapping.
We are the leader in precision ag
information gathering. The services we provide are not limited to soil
sampling. We also have other precision ag services that can assist you in better
managing your growers fields. You have the advantage of contacting
only one supplier for all your needs.
